When Paul Herbert graduated from Deer Park High School in 1956, little did he know that he would return to serve his entire professional career helping to mold and shape the student-athletes who passed through the same doors as he did.
Upon graduation, Mr. Herbert headed for the University of Cincinnati as a business major. Somewhere between his second and third years at UC, Mr. Herbert decided to switch to becoming an education major. And the rest as they say, was history.

The 1971-72 Wildcats was Coach Herbert’s only year at the boys’ varsity level. He was also the coach of the chess team. Coach Herbert’s greatest success was on the softball diamond as the girls’ varsity coach from 1985-2000. He took the girls program from slow-pitch to fast pitch. Under Coach Herbert, the girls won four league titles, including three straight from 1998-2000. The girls’ softball team of 1998-2000 remains the ONLY Deer Park athletic team to win 3 consecutive league titles. Coach Herbert was honored as the CHL Coach of the Year 5 times.
